There's a lot of talk out there about right brain, left brain, cross over areas...it leaves me to wonder, does that apply to me? I'm left handed. My favorite is "Left handed people are the only ones in their right mind." If I'm in my right mind or not, I couldn't be taught how to knit, bowl, or use scissors with my left hand. I do everything with my right hand except eat and write. So those brain discussions?
Well, how about I don't get into the specifics of what happens in which area of the brain but go with the general belief that creativity happens on one side of the brain. If that's the premise, how can I monitor myself in areas on the "other side" while I'm creating? I can be taught aside from when I'm creating, but while I'm creating? That would just gunk up the works.
According to "How Our Brains Work When We Are Creating" (catchy title) the two sides of the brain work together but they also think the brain looks just like one of those soft blankets...
(I got one for Christmas but it has pretty blue designs. I love it)
And that "...[creating] involves reducing activation of the Attentional Control Network. Reducing this partially helps us to allow inspiration in, and new ideas to form..."
I'm just not willing to give up my initial understanding. Especially when "reducing....Attention Control Network..." implies I am not paying attention to my "new ideas" (aka story) which is so far from the truth when I look up from writing and realize I'm crying in an empty room and no one has died, or I'm wondering why the sun is shining when it was just pouring rain in what I created. My attention is somewhere, with all five senses in total activation mode! I can't jeopardize that by running a spell check in my head.
While I try not to loose my prespective or get discuraged, I do ask for indulgince from my editors. Effect and affect have always been a big problem, just like breath and breathe, lay and lie, but besides that, I think I'm goode.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.
